High Demand Marks Diana Gregory Outreach Services’ “Veggies for Veterans” Event Amid SNAP Delays
Phoenix, AZ — Diana Gregory Outreach Services successfully hosted another “Veggies for Veterans” event on November 5 at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, distributing fresh produce to hundreds of local veterans as community need continues to rise.
More than 40 volunteers helped assemble and hand out 700 bags of fresh fruits and vegetables — an increase from the 600 originally planned. Each bag contained 14 different produce items, including red and green grapes generously donated by Peddler’s Son, who also provided pumpkins.
Organizers noted an unusually high demand this year, with many veterans reporting lingering financial strain tied to the recent government shutdown and resulting SNAP benefit delays. These interruptions have placed additional pressure on low-income veterans, seniors, and families who depend on monthly food assistance to meet basic needs.
The event was supported by community partners including State Farm, Southwest Airlines, Sanderson Ford, Harrah’s, Phoenix VA Health Care System, Peddler’s Son, Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, and the Archer Ragsdale Arizona Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc..
Diana Gregory, founder of Gregory’s Fresh Market, emphasized the ongoing commitment to nutrition, dignity, and service for those who served our nation.

Gregory’s Fresh Market, Our Story
Our Partners
Gregory’s Fresh Market (GFM), a division of Diana Gregory Outreach Services and a 501 (c)(3) organization, is a one-aisle mobile produce market which operates in senior communities without easy access to healthy food. The mission is to enrich lives. Through a holistic approach, including education to increase senior understanding and acceptance of making healthy food choices, community organizing and advocacy, Gregory’s Fresh Market is working to restore meaningful food access and eliminate health disparities in under-resourced communities. Community-dwelling seniors who participate in Gregory’s Fresh Market will not only have access to fresh produce, they will also have the opportunity to regularly participate in educational programs that teach simple solutions for healthy cooking, healthy eating and incorporating appropriate fitness. During COVID-19, GFM pivoted to a delivery service. Over 15,000 veterans and seniors received bags of fresh fruits and vegetables in 2020.
